Hello and welcome to the archive of the first beyond tellerrand in Munich, which took palce from 15 to 17 January in 2018. You find all videos of the talks embedded in the speaker page of every speaker. Additionally you can use the links to either Vimeo or YouTube to watch all the videos.

Next to the videos, you find any coverage or content that I got for the talks, like slides or blog posts or songs, in case Tobi produced one after the event. On top of this, every talk has its own transcription, so that you can read the whole talk in text form.

dina Amin

dina Amin

dina Amin is a designer from Cairo, Egypt. She completed her B.A. (Hons) in Industrial Design in Malaysia. Although trained as a Product Designer, dina loves to explore the intersections between various disciplines. She developed an array of skills from working in different fields such as Content Design, Writing, Design Research and Development, and Community Building.

In 2016, dina started a side project called ‘Tinker Friday’ on Instagram, where she combined her passion for product design and stop motion with her views on consumerism. In this stop motion series, dina shows people what’s inside the countless things they throw away, in unusual ways. dina continues to tinker, making new items out of old ones, constantly telling stories and showing people things in a completely different way.

After discovering her love for stop motion, dina also founded “Tinker Studio”, where she produces stop motion videos for diverse clients and companies around the world.

Nadieh Bremer

Nadieh Bremer

Nadieh Bremer is a graduated Astronomer, turned Data Scientist, turned self-taught Data Visualization Designer. After working for a consultancy & fintech company where she discovered her passion for the visualization of data, she's now working as a freelancing data visualization designer under the name “Visual Cinnamon”. She focuses on uniquely crafted (interactive) data visualizations that both engage and enlighten its audience. Secretly, she wouldn't mind venturing into data & generative art as well.

Robin Christopherson

Robin Christopherson

Robin is Head of Digital Inclusion at the UK’s leading tech charity AbilityNet. Fortunate enough to receive an MBE in the 2017 honours list for his work, Robin is passionate about how tech can transform everyone’s life regardless of ability, impairment or environment. He is also a huge Amazon Echo fan and publishes the daily podcast on all things Alexa called Dot to Dot.

Simon Collison

Simon Collison

Simon is a designer based in Nottingham, now in his sixth year with product studio Fictive Kin. An early web standards advocate, he's written several design books, spoken at events all over the world, and organised the much-missed New Adventures events. Simon is currently exploring the ways digital technology can have a beneficial impact on our happiness, particularly where it encourages us to go outside, discover nature, and helps broaden our knowledge of the world around us.

Carla Diana

Carla Diana

Carla Diana is a designer, author and educator who explores the impact of future technologies through hands-on experiments in product design and tangible interaction. She has designed a range of products from robots to connected home appliances, and her robot designs have appeared on the covers of Popular Science, Technology Review and the New York Times Sunday Review. Carla is currently Assistant Professor in Product and Industrial Design at Parsons the New School. She previously taught at several prestigious universities where she created some of the country’s first courses on designing smart objects. She is a Fellow at the innovation design firm Smart Design and an ongoing collaborator with the Socially Intelligent Machines Lab at the University of Texas, Austin, where advances in artificial intelligence and machine learning are manifest in expressive robots.

She writes and lectures frequently on the social impact of robotics and emerging technology and created the world’s first children’s book on 3D printing, LEO the Maker Prince. Her seminal essay, “Talking, Walking Objects”, is a good representation of her view of our robotic future.

Carla holds a B.E. in Mechanical Engineering from the Cooper Union and an M.F.A. in 3D Design from the Cranbrook Academy of Art.

Vitaly Friedman

Vitaly Friedman

Vitaly Friedman loves beautiful content and does not give up easily. From Minsk in Belarus, he studied computer science and mathematics in Germany, discovered the passage a passion for typography, writing and design. After working as a freelance designer and developer for 6 years, he co-founded Smashing Magazine, a leading online magazine dedicated to design and web development. Vitaly is the author, co-author and editor of all Smashing books. He currently works as editor-in-chief of Smashing Magazine in the lovely city of Vilnius, Lithuania

Christian Heilmann

Christian Heilmann

Chris Heilmann has dedicated a lot of his time making the web better. Originally coming from a radio journalism background, he built his first web site from scratch around 1997 and spent the following years working on lots of large, international web sites. He then spent a few years in Yahoo building products and explaining and training people including Yahoo Answers, Search, Local and Maps. He then worked at Mozilla moving HTML5 support forward and advocating Firefox OS as an open alternative to closed mobile systems. Chris wrote two and contributed to eight books on web development and wrote many articles and hundreds of blog posts for Ajaxian, Smashing Magazine, Yahoo, Mozilla, ScriptJunkie and many more. He also wrote the Developer Evangelism Handbook in use in many companies to coach evangelists. He is currently working with the Microsoft Edge team as a Program Manager for Developer Outreach

Mark Robbins

Mark Robbins

After working in many jobs as a chef, cameraman, gaffer, wine merchant then web developer Mark Robbins found himself working in the world of email, where he is trying to change the way we think about HTML email. They no longer have to be restricted to simple layouts of text and images, they can now be fully interactive experiences. Working with REBEL, he has worked on campaigns with a number of global brands and consulted with a number of well known email clients and ESP's.

Harry Roberts

Harry Roberts

With a client list including Google, Unilever, and the United Nations, Harry is an award-winning Consultant Front-end Architect who helps organisations and teams across the globe to plan, build, and maintain product-scale UIs.

He writes on the subjects of CSS architecture, performance, and scalability at csswizardry.com; develops and maintains inuitcss; authored CSS Guidelines; and Tweets at @csswizardry.

Stefan Sagmeister

Stefan Sagmeister

Stefan Sagmeister formed the New York based Sagmeister Inc. in 1993 and has since designed for clients as diverse as the Rolling Stones, HBO, and the Guggenheim Museum. Having been nominated eight times he finally won two Grammies for the Talking Heads and Brian Eno & David Byrne package designs. He also earned practically every important international design award.

In 2008 a comprehensive book titled "Things I have Learned in myLife so far" was published by Abrams. Solo shows on Sagmeister Inc’s work have been mounted in Paris, Zurich, Vienna, Prague, Cologne, Berlin, New York, Miami, Los Angeles, Chicago, Toronto, Tokyo, Osaka, Seoul and Miami. He teaches in the graduate department of the School of Visual Art in New York and lectures extensively on all continents. In 2012 young designer Jessica Walsh became a partner and the company was renamed into Sagmeister & Walsh. A native of Austria, he received his MFA from the University of Applied Arts in Vienna and, as a Fulbright Scholar, a master’s degree from Pratt Institute in New York.

Sara Soueidan

Sara is an award-winning freelance front-end Web developer and author from Lebanon. She runs workshops and helps companies and agencies build clean front-end (HTML5, SVG, CSS, JS) foundations for Web sites & applications, with strong focus on progressive enhancement, performance and accessibility.

We are super happy that she is back after a few years and joins us for the very first beyond tellerrand in Munich!

Marcy Sutton

Marcy Sutton

Marcy Sutton works on web accessibility tools for developers at Deque (DQ) Systems, a company focused on digital equality. Marcy is passionate about making the web accessible for everyone, and in 2016 she was given an O’Reilly Web Platform Award for her work in accessibility. She loves applying her skills and personal values on the axe-core project, and co-leading the Seattle Accessibility and Inclusive Design Meetup. She recently started a coding club for Girl Develop It, in her new city of Bellingham, Washington. When away from the keyboard, Marcy can usually be found hiking with her dog, riding a bicycle or snowboarding.

Aoi Yamaguchi

Aoi Yamaguchi

Born and raised in Hokkaido, Japan, Aoi Yamaguchi has been trained to master the basics of calligraphy by learning under the Master Zuiho Sato since at the age of 6, while refining her knowledge and skills. She is a recipient of numerous awards including the First Place prize from the Minister of Education at 44th Asahi Calligraphy Nationwide School Exhibit, Superior First Place at 33rd National Students Calligraphy Exhibition and others that are known as the supreme prizes at competitive public exhibitions. As a noteworthy event, she was nominated to participate in the group, 4th Hokkaido Elementary and Junior High Students Visit to China in 2000, representing the country of Japan and participated in calligraphy exchange sessions at Palace of Pupils of China.

Since landed in the U.S. in 2004, she has performed and exhibited her works in many galleries, museums, universities and festivals in the United States, across Europe, and Japan. Her works show her exploration in juxtaposing the traditional Eastern classics and her contemporary artistic expressions, as well as her unique ambition of transforming two-dimensional art of Japanese Calligraphy into the art of physical expression through performances. Currently residing in Berkeley, California, Yamaguchi continues her work on her conceptual calligraphy installations, exhibitions, and performances as she continues to push the boundaries of traditional Eastern classics and contemporary artistic expression.
