My guests on this day are Nadieh Bremer and Shirley Wu. I am always just 🤯 and 😍 whenever I see their work. Both have been speaking at beyond tellerrand before and I am super curious about what they are going to talk about.

This time I am delighted to welcome Steph Rieger and Aarron Walter. Not only great in what they are creating and doing in their day to day work, but also always a pleasure meeting at events around the world and chatting about work, life and everything actually. I am sure this is going to be a great show, when we talk about designing for emotion and free expression, harmful speech, and the future of the internet.

This time my guests are Gavin Strange and James Victore. Two of my biggest heroes when it comes to motivating people in many, many ways. So, look forward to the show, and read below, what you are able to enter and whom to meet.

I am beyond delighted to welcome Cassie Evans and Charlie Gerard in this edition of Stay Curious. Both love tinkering. Cassie on Codepen, where you can find a lot of her SVG adventures and Charlie in the Projects area of her site, where she also states ”Useless is not worthless” – which is absolutely right. I am looking forward to an edition where we’ll hear and see why playfulness and experiments are important and why you never should stop being curious!

This time I invited two people you might know from events, books or articles you have read. Sharon Steed is known for her brilliant presentations about empathy and she has given some absolute great talks at beyond tellerrand before, last time in Berlin 2019. David Thomas has written a fantastic book about design for cognitive bias and a few years back my friend Mike Monteiro pointed me to him, when he had seen David speaking. And just in the year when I'd have loved to speak to him to invite him to one of my events, a world wide pandemic hit us. Well, luckily I have the chance to invite these two to my little online café.

For this show, Ulrike Rausch and Oliver Schöndorfer are my guests. Ulrike's work with fonts is simply stunning. If I only take the latest release of her colorfont LiebeHeide and see what you are able to do with this font … lovely. Oliver recently started his own YouTube channel, which he named Pimp my Type and two years ago he gave a fantastic talk about variable Web typography. In short: I am very much looking forward to this show and welcoming you!

Like the show before – and actually all shows in December – this show has a different format. As you also recognise it is not scheduled in the usual two weeks timeframe, but in between two shows. This is one of a few shows that are planned, that are not only about a person, but also about a product/tool/service. And I am honoured and happy to being able to start with a product I love and use for a long time (nope, I am not getting paid here). My guest, Bastian, and I share a lot of things and over the last ten or more years we have become close friends. We talk often and even if his product is a different one as mine, there are many similarities in how our customers are, see us and see our connection to the product.

Well, obviously I am talking about Kirby, the file-based CMS Bastian Allgeier invented and which I often rave about. Today, on December 15th, Kirby 3.5 is going to be released and I take this as a chance to ask Bastian to walk us through the latest features, the core idea behind Kirby and maybe a little more … tune in, it will be exciting!

It is December. The year 2020 ends soon, but what does it mean? Some might just be happy that this shitty year is done and hope that the upcoming year brings better days. Other might see the jump from one to another year just as a change of a number on a continuous path we are on, so not much changes really, because we simply add +1 to the years. However you see it, maybe you want to take a look back at 2020 together with me and a couple of friends I invited tonight. Amongst them Brendan Dawes, Yuko Shimizu, Eva-Lotta Lamm, Aaron Draplin, Keir Whitaker and Rob Draper.

We will talk about how they, coming from different business, have dealt with Covid-19 and what this has brought them in 2020 and how they look to the future. Always – as you know me – with a positive twist and not to look back and grumble about what was …

This time the Stay Curious Café is going to be a little different. Instead of inviting two guests, I have invited three exciting and wonderful people: Eva-Lotta Lamm, Tim van Damme and Brian Suda. We are going to speak about the concept of work, the career choices we have and make during our life, entrepreneurship, gotchas, tools, whether it is a good choice to become a specialist vs a generalist and much more after Brian Suda opened with a short presentation to plant some seeds for conversations, opinions and questions for this week’s show.

In this show two wonderful people from the days where I went to Flash conferences are going to join me. Both were – and still are – well known for the work they do and have been pioneers in what they do. Both have written books read by many people and are highly respected role models. I am delighted that Carla Diana and Brendan Dawes found the time to join me today. I could go on and write about them for hours, but I invite you to join me and find out who they are – if you don’t know them – and to hear about what they are working on these days.

In this session of the Café we are going to talk about interaction, or the ways that we connect with design through programmed responses, allowing us to get lost in the beauty of expression and the magic of the exchange. Brendan and Carla will share the passion around their work and talk about their varied approaches to creative technology.

This time my dear guests are Bianca Berning and Yves Peters, known for their work in the typographic bubble, but not only that. Yves spoke twice at beyond tellerrand (actually at the very first one in 2011 also) and I invited Bianca to one of the shows in 2020 which – as we all know – are postponed to this year (well, hopefully!). Join us for talks and conversation about all the possibilities we have as designers, developers and also typographers.

Are you ready for a big dose of positivity? I bet you are! The people joining me today are exactly what you need then. Not only is their work always full of energy and positivity, but also they themselves – as far as I know them – are always sending out positive vibes and messages. So, grab a drink of your choice, fasten your seatbelt and get ready for Katie Menzies, Abel Reverter and dina Amin!

My guests today: Eva-Lotta Lamm and Nadine Roßa. Both based in Berlin and both simply really good in visualising their thoughts or in taking notes visually. So obviously this is the core topic today: Visual Thinking. What is it good for? How does it work? Can I start, even though I am not good at drawing things? Many questions that might pop up in your head already – and the right show to attend for you then!

Instead of classic presentations the format of this show will be a bit different. Nadine and Eva-Lotta will ask each other their favourite questions about their visual thinking, their sketching practice and the field of “bringing clarity to complex problems” in general. And to bring the theory to life straight away, they will sketchnote each other’s answers live on screen at the same time.

After an initial round of questions between them, the audience is invited to ask their own questions and contribute to the big picture that Nadine and Eva-Lotta will create together. Let’s have a good time together and talk, draw and play :)

The two guests for this show have both spoken at beyond tellerrand already and both their presentations left me with an open mouth because of their incredible beautiful and wonderful work. While Aoi is using a brush heavily in her work and parts of her given talk about Japanese calligraphy actually dealt with brushes, Red, at one point, decided to leave the brush in the drawer and to use materials ranging from teabags, to chopsticks, socks, eggshells and more. Excited to hear what they have been up to since we met last time!

Welcome back to another show in our Kirby CMS series. Next to Bastian Allgeier I am happy to welcome Georg Obermayr to this show, who will demonstrate how they use Kirby for the website of LOWA in their content first approach. I am stoked to welcome my two guests for this show. Not only, because I like Steph and Jeremy, but also, because you’d probably expect them to talk web. But you guessed wrong here.

This show is all about Sci-Fi. With its roots in fantasy, horror, superhero and alike, Sci-Fi has a lot of subgenres about which we’ll hear and learn today. Jeremy will take us on a whirlwind tour of the history of sci-fi in his time machine, and Steph will ignite our imagination for a positive climate future with Solarpunk.

After a short Summer break, we are back with new shows. In the first show, two long-time partners in crime and wonderful company on many events around the world, are joining me. Tim Kadlec and Harry Roberts will present a more technical show in the Stay Curious series on a day themed Performance.

Nearly one year ago, on December 12th 2020, Bastian Allgeier and his team released version 3.5 of Kirby, the file based CMS. This was a huge step into a new direction with much more powerful tools and new features in the panel.

Now, in November 2021, Bastian is back at our Stay Curious Café to talk abot the next major release with version 3.6. Join us in our Kirby Hub to hear about the latest improvements, the things that have been added and made better, but also the roadmap for upcoming releases. Oh and of course: if you are new to Kirby: join us as well, as you are going to get a good impression of what Kirby is.

On 24th June 2025 Kirby 5 has been released. Kirby is a file based CMS and this update, as each major Kirby update, brings a lot of new features and enhancements.
