Simon Collison

Simon Collison

Simon Collison is a designer who has worked in a variety of situations for bands, record labels, governments, polar explorers, and most other things. He's written books about web design and regularly talks at conferences around the world. He’s a proud partner with Fictive Kin, and also organises the occasional New Adventures in Web Design events in his hometown of Nottingham. Simon is married to Geri, and owned by Bearface the cat.

Chris Heilmann

Chris Heilmann

Chris Heilmann has dedicated a lot of his time making the web better. Originally coming from a radio journalism background, he built his first web site from scratch around 1997 and spent the following years working on lots of large, international web sites. He then spent a few years in Yahoo building products and explaining and training people including Yahoo Answers, Search, Local and Maps. He then worked at Mozilla moving HTML5 support forward and advocating Firefox OS as an open alternative to closed mobile systems. Chris wrote two and contributed to eight books on web development and wrote many articles and hundreds of blog posts for Ajaxian, Smashing Magazine, Yahoo, Mozilla, ScriptJunkie and many more. He also wrote the Developer Evangelism Handbook in use in many companies to coach evangelists.

Scott Jehl

Scott Jehl

Scott Jehl is a web designer and developer. He works alongside the bright folks at Filament Group, with clients such as the Boston Globe, LEGO Systems, Inc., Global News Canada, eBay, and more. In 2014 he wrote Responsible Responsive Design, and in 2010, he cowrote Designing with Progressive Enhancement. Scott has also spoken at conferences like An Event Apart, Breaking Development, and Mobilism. He is an active participant in the open-source community, releasing projects on GitHub that focus on accessible, sustainable, and performance-oriented practices for cross-device development. Scott lives in Seagrove Beach, Florida.

Peter-Paul Koch

Peter-Paul Koch

Peter-Paul Koch is a mobile platform strategist, browser researcher, consultant, and trainer in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. He specialises in the mobile web, and especially mobile browser research. On the Web he’s universally known as ppk.

He won international renown with his browser compatibility research, founded Fronteers, the Dutch association of front-end professionals, and advises mobile and desktop browser vendors on their implementation of Web standards.

Meanwhile he concentrates on the mobile web, and then especially on the aspects he feels web developers are ignoring, such as the UC browser and Xiaomi and Micromax devices. His personal collection consists of about 50 mobile phones, and he uses about half of them in his daily testing. Occasionally one of them emits a soft, melancholy beep, but he has no idea which one and studiously ignores it.

Rachel Nabors

Rachel Nabors

Rachel Nabors is an interaction developer and award-winning cartoonist. She travels the world, speaking about web animation and giving workshops. Her articles on the topic have been published on Smashing Mag, A List Apart, and 24 Ways. When not biking around her home city of Portland, Oregon in the USA, she makes interactive comics at her company Tin Magpie. You can catch her as @rachelnabors on Twitter and at rachelnabors.com.

Anton & Irene

Anton & Irene

The duo has been working together for 7 years, and in that time have created the interactive experiences for many large scale clients and projects, under which the soup to nuts redesign of USAToday.com, Balenciaga.com, Wacom.com and SportsIllustrated.com. They’ve also created smaller projects, apps and experiments for clients like Karim Rashid, Google, Nickelodeon, Porsche and Red Bull.

Their work has been recognized by Cannes, Red Dot, The Webbys, The FWA, The Interaction Design Association and The European Design Awards, and they have given workshops and been guest speakers at OFFF, SXSW, FITC, Adobe Live, Hyper Island in Stockholm, Elisava in Barcelona, RIT in Rochester, and the Design Academy in Eindhoven – among many others.

Stephanie Rieger

Stephanie Rieger

Stephanie is a designer, researcher and closet anthropologist with a passion for the many ways people use technology. A mobile industry veteran with a keen eye on emerging technologies, she has worked with companies such as Nokia, Microsoft, Intel, Phillips and the NHS. Stephanie speaks at conferences and teaches workshops on mobile design and strategy all over the world. She is also co-founder and one of the principals at Yiibu, a wee consultancy with a focus on mobile and emerging technologies.

Petro Salema

Petro Salema

Petro Salema leads the development of the Aloha Editor to make the web a powerful platform for rich-text content creation. He discovered the wonderful possibilities for software to impact the human condition with the World Wide Web in his early teens. He noticed that most limitations with what we can build with software are only as insurmountable as the limits to our imagination. And thus began his study of code and design—the craft, and people behind it.

Dave Shea

Dave Shea

Dave is the creator and cultivator of the highly influential website csszengarden.com, and co-author of The Zen of CSS Design (New Riders, 2005) with Molly Holzschlag.

His current role is VP of User Experience at Mobify Inc in Vancouver, Canada. Previously he ran Bright Creative, working on projects for New York University, Google, CNet, Joyent and others. He speaks internationally at conferences and workshops, and was an organiser of the North American arm of Web Directions, a popular international conference series.

His extracurricular interests have included icon design, the Processing visual language, GPS tracking his road cycling trips, and improving his home craft brewing techniques. Find Dave on Twitter as @mezzoblue.

Sara Soueidan

Sara Soueidan

Sara is a freelance front-end web developer from Lebanon — focusing on HTML5, SVG, CSS and Javascript. She loves taking deep dives into various topics and breaking down complex subjects into simple, easy-to-understand bits. Next to this she does a lot of teaching and writing, and writes tutorials and articles on front-end development on her blog and for various online magazines. She also tweets @SaraSoueidan on Twitter.

Jeffrey Veen

Jeffrey Veen

Jeffrey is the Vice President of Product Design for Adobe. He joined Adobe in October, 2011, when they acquired Typekit, the company he co-founded and ran as CEO. In addition to Typekit, Jeffrey was one of the founding partners of the user experience consulting group Adaptive Path. While there, he lead the development of Measure Map, which was acquired by Google.

During his time at Google, he redesigned Google Analytics and lead the UX team for Google's apps. Much earlier, he was part of the founding web team at Wired Magazine, where he helped build HotWired, Web Monkey, Wired News, and many other sites. During that time, Jeffrey authored two books, "HotWired Style" and “The Art and Science of Web Design.”

Sara Wachter-Boettcher

Sara Wachter-Boettcher

Sara Wachter-Boettcher runs a content strategy consultancy based in Philadelphia. She is the editor in chief of A List Apart magazine, and the author of Content Everywhere, a book that helps content professionals, designers, and others create flexible, mobile-friendly content systems.

Sara helps big companies, universities, and institutions grapple with messy content problems—like adapting to responsive design, consolidating fragmented sites, or migrating to a new CMS. She also speaks at conferences around the world about what great content actually takes: collaboration, iteration, and a commitment to change.
