Microsoft Germany GmbH is the second-largest foreign subsidiary of the Microsoft Corporation. It is responsible for Marketing and Sales in Germany while cooperating with approximately 37,000 local partners. Besides the Headquarter in Unterschleißheim near Munich, Microsoft Germany GmbH runs six offices nationwide. In addition, a laboratory for applied industrial research in Aachen with the Advanced Technology Labs (ATL) Europe (formerly "European Microsoft Innovation Center (EMIC)) was opened in May 2003. Microsoft Germany GmbH has set the goal to not only take over economic, but also social responsibility contributing to growth and development in Germany. For this reason, the company is engaged in numerous initiatives and projects together with relating partners from politics, business and science. The most important initiative by Microsoft Germany GmbH are besides the innovation initiative "Republic of Chances Germany", the BizSpark program to promote high-tech founders and the "Smart Mice Initiative - Children explore language "- project.
