All Together Now

There is no better time to think about radical collaboration between tech and other sectors than in the middle of a climate emergency. Alex will share examples of complex technology problems that hide behind the headlines and that software and UX practitioners should look to address in their next job. From helping streamlining the access to green finance, decarbonising a supply chain or helping people understand their energy bills, there is plenty to do and the time is now.

Inviting People In

We’ve retreated to our homes and ourselves during the pandemic. As we find our new normal, it’s time to invite people back in. Our approach to inviting people will be different, especially since many are remotely located on distributed teams. We’ll consider what it means to include people in our circles again and what the benefits are. We'll identify what perspectives your team has, what perspectives it is missing, and why proactively inviting these perspectives matters. Also, we will discuss how to invite people in.

If You’re Not Scared, You’re Not Living

As an artist and illustrator, I have had to deal with a huge amount of obstacles, from rejection to ghosting. Which can play a huge part in knocking the self confidence off the shelf, especially working as a one person operation.

This talk will share some insights into how first I have to understand who I am before trying to have any clue who my clients are, and what my practice does and basically deal with the potato gun of shit that is constantly being triggered. How during COVID, losing all my clients and being in a dark place, led to one of my most incredible years. Overcoming those obstacles that can make you feel coiled up like an over wound toy. Basically embracing who you are, believing in yourself and taking ownership without feeling like a victim of your own circumstance.

I will share some projects that made me scared, anxious and left a few sleepless nights, but ultimately became the most exciting ones I have worked on. This talk might change your life, it might not, but there will definitely be some laughs along the way, because scared and laughing is the new therapy.

Make It Sound

The transference of sound data into visuality

Data exists in many forms: numbers, text strings, social media feeds, and even sound. This talk will explore new ways to communicate information using sound: from data-driven album covers to art installations; this will be a personal take on the exciting world of data sonification. Tiziana will bring you into a journey wrapped in extended visualisations of the unification between sound and two-dimensional forms, only working with sonic material that consistently begins and ends with her — at times including one other person or ambient sounds within the environment.

Dragon Slayer

You wake up, severely underdressed, in a slow moving wooden cart alongside what appears to be a small group of prisoners. One of them looks like a developer of some kind, another one a beaten up Project Manager. Surrounded by tall pine trees, feeling the cold, wet air biting into your skin, you try to gather your thoughts. You can’t remember how you got here, but you instinctively know what lies ahead: Your career as a designer.

In the distance, high above snow covered mountains you see a faint shadow moving across the sky.

Was that a … dragon?
